Colour Sample Box Only £7.95 + Vat Delivered Your wooden gates are an extension to your home, and we do everything in our power to ensure you receive the highest quality product, which will stand the test of time…and the elements! We use only the very best full-matt top, quality Finnish gate coatings mixed in-house to our own unique colours. Full-matt water-borne acrylate-based paint for outdoor wooden gates has a matt and hard surface that is dirt-repellent and retains its appearance and colour for a very, very long time. We factory finish these with a primer and then spray 2 x additional top coats for ultimate protection; we even coat the tongue and groove boards individually before construction, ensuring even the inner parts are fully protected. These top-quality professional coatings are used on most outdoor timber-clad buildings and structures throughout Finland and have been tried and tested as the number one product in the harsh winters of Finland and neighbouring Scandinavian countries. Professional coatings that last. That's the Wortley Brothers difference.

Wood Types

At Wortley Brothers, we offer two premium wood types. Both Scandinavian Redwood and African Iroko Hardwood are premium grade wood.

Our wooden gates and garage doors are handmade and manufactured in-house using these wood types by our team of skilled experts.

Scandinavian Redwood

This premium grade timber experiences minimal moving, swelling, shrinking or warping, which ensures that your new product will stand the test of time.

Our Scandinavian Redwood costs us 35% more than standard timber – a cost which we carry ourselves and do not reflect back in our prices to you.

This hardwood is an extremely durable timber that is naturally resistant to decay and rot, even before any treatment is applied. This is a beautiful premium grade hardwood made to last for years to come. Sourced from the west coast of tropical Africa.

Treatments

Our range of natural stains and colours for your wooden gates or garage doors are available to purchase in two applications:

  1. Premium Factory Finish: We apply your chosen treatment in-house before delivery.
  2. At-Home DIY Finish: You purchase the coating to apply yourself.

These applications are also available for our colour matching service, where our treatments can be colour matched to suit your gates.

Factory Finish

We are proud to offer a full factory finish to your new wooden gates or garage doors. Our team will professionally spray two high-build coats of your chosen treatment, ensuring ultimate protection and visual impact. Your new product will be sent to you fully treated and ready to install.

Our home finish treatment is a true DIY application. There’s no preparation needed; simply apply this treatment directly onto your gates using a brush or sprayer. After two hours, apply a second coat for ultimate protection. Dried and ready to use within a few hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I install a wooden gate?

Installing a new single wooden gate can be a challenge. Check out our free installation guide to help you, covering all the tips, tricks, best practices and challenges to avoid. For any further assistance, please contact our team.

Installation Guide

What is the optimal size for a gate?

The best height and width for a wooden gate depends on its intended use.

Standard single pedestrian and garden gates should be around 900mm wide to allow for clear access. This includes measurements to allow for expansion gaps and posts. The maximum width for a single gate we can manufacture at Wortley Brothers is 3000mm. Common heights range from three to six feet.

Installation Guide

Can gates open both ways?

Our single gates are designed to open either inwards or outwards, and the placement of the hinge during installation will decide how the gate will open. For example, from the front view, the hinge will either be flush against the front of the post and gate to open outwards, or flush against the back of the post and gate to open inwards.

If you are planning for your gates to open outwards, you will need to include a hinge packer to your order.
