Wooden Products

Yes. We are passionate about creating a final product that looks great and works hard. We take the time to ensure all of our wooden gates, garage doors, and posts are fully planed and sanded to a smooth finish.

Our wooden products are manufactured from your choice of our premium grade timber – Scandinavian Redwood and African Iroko Hardwood. In manufacturing, the joints are mortice and tennoned, glued, and then dowelled.

This process, combined with our premium wood styles, guarantees sturdiness and longevity for you to enjoy your products for years to come.

Our gates are designed to open either inwards or outwards. The placement of the hinge during installation will decide how the gate will open. For example, from the front view, the hinge will either be flush against the front of the post and gate to open outwards, or flush against the back of the post and gate to open inwards.

If you are planning for your gate to open outwards, you will need to include a hinge packer to your order.

Our garage doors feature a rebate, which means they only open either inwards or outwards. This also gives you a freedom of choice of whether the left or right door will open first. Please contact us if you require more support about this.

We can manufacture folding gates in any of our standard styles. Contact us with the total gap size of where you would like your folding gate to sit, and we will complete all calculations for you for manufacturing.

Yes, our full range of gates are suitable for electric automation – a perfect choice for wooden double gates for driveways. If you are using an underground system, please contact us before purchase for further guidance.

Due to the nature of the material, all wooden gates are prone to natural movement. At Wortley Brothers, we use premium grade timber which helps to keep movement, splits, swelling and shrinking to a minimum.

Yes, our range of side panels are made-to-measure. We can manufacture them to perfectly match your chosen gate’s style, size, and design, ensuring a visually stunning and consistent overall appearance.

We work hard to manufacture all of our made-to-measure wooden gates and ensure they are built for longevity and durability. This means that the bracing will differ for each gate depending on the size and style for maximum strength. For example, larger gates will require more bracing than a smaller size.
No, our garage doors do not come supplied with glazing or beading. This would need to be purchased separately.

Yes, we can manufacture 70/30 split gates, or any other uneven split combination you require at your wooden gates. Choose your style of split gates from our range and input your measurements as you require during product configuration. For any further guidance for a 70/30 split, please contact us.

Our gate stiles protrude 70mm above the gate framing. This is the same for our rounded stiles, with the top horizontal rail being included in your height measurement.

For example, if you have ordered our Shrewsbury style gate at a height of 1870mm, the horizontal rail will sit at 1800mm high.

Other Products

The coatings that we apply during manufacturing contain protective anti-fungal properties, and are an all-in-one primer and finish coat. If the final colour is not suitable, you can paint over this with any other treatment. This will also double the protection of your gates.

We have a variety of colours, and a colour match service, in our treatments to suit your aesthetic needs.

To help you decide which colour treatment is best for your new gates or garage doors, we offer colour sample boxes to purchase.

Measuring & Installing

All of our wooden gates, garage doors, and posts are manufactured to your exact, unique measurements. When choosing and configuring your product to purchase, simply put in your own custom height and width, and we will manufacture your new product to these specifications.

We are proudly the only UK-based wooden gate manufacturer to offer custom sizes made to the millimetre.

All gate heights are measured from the shoulder of the gate (hinge side). Any bow or curve is raised above this by approximately 30mm on single gates, and approximately 250mm on double gates.

For more support, please contact us or read our installation guide.

All gate widths are for the total space between clearance gaps and posts.

For example, when ordering double gates at 3000mm wide, you will receive two 1500mm wide gate leaves. When ordering a single gate at 1000mm wide, you will receive one 1000mm wide gate leaf.

For more support, please contact us or read our installation guide.
